In the Bahamas, much like Latin America and other countries in the Caribbean region, there is a massive problem with violence. Armed robbery, muggings, assaults, and overall violent crimes are not something unusual on the island chain. This has been causing many people, tourists and Bahamians, to leave the country in search of a better vacation or place to live. Another big problem in the country is excessive drug and alcohol consumption, this being a large leading cause to violent crimes, especially rape.

As noted before, the Bahamas is decreasing in terms of the population that are tourists. So many people have been warning others about the dangers of the island chain that people are reconsidered taking a trip there. In 2014, the United States issued a travel warning about the Bahamas. It states that even though U.S citizens have not been targeted directly, there had been an increase in many violent crimes such as home invasions, armed robberies, and sexual assault. There are many ways to travel around the Bahamas. If you’re staying on just one island, then you don’t have to worry about crossing water much. Getting around through the air is easy, all you have to do is find one the 19 airports scattered across 12 Bahamian islands. Land travel, however, doesn’t require flying, if you don’t like airplanes. Getting around on the islands are simple as well. You could rent a car, mostly very expensive and in poor condition, or hire a taxi, usually old and in poor condition. Walking isn’t particularly advised, especially if your a woman and it’s late at night, since in the Bahamas, all sorts of violent crimes are not uncommon.

If you’re crossing over to another island and don’t want to fly, you can go by boat. Depending on the boat you hire, the prices can go from reasonable to very expensive.
